My apologizes for being absent, but I have been very busy with the studies that has been almost two months that I didn’t check my e-mails, and I’m feel very feel ashamed for don’t give notice about me before.

My first year

Dear Dr. Paulo, how are you?

Exactly one year ago, I finally rid myself of a concern I had had for many years. A moment that several weeks before had been marked by professional and personal instructions, from a very competent person who was willing to listen to me, to understand and to explain doubts, and most important: to give me the chance to obtain a solution and allow me to see and feel life a different way.

It almost sounds as if I am talking about someone who delivered a baby. In essence, I think it was very similar. This person ended up giving life after all. Only this time, to move forwards… without any curves (nothing against them, but curves look much better on other silhouettes!)

Therefore, once again, I wish to thank someone I consider and respect a great deal. I am certain that the “former Curved Penis” has completed its mission well at the appropriate times (of course, I will spare the details…)

Over this seven month period after Peyronie correction surgery, I have tried to write you some words several times that would demonstrate my immense happiness and gratitude, but every time I wrote a few lines, in the end I felt the words could never equal my joy.

Doctor, by correcting this EVIL that so afflicts man, you have restored my self-esteem and desire to live. My depression has disappeared. I have been born again.

Dear Dr. Paulo Egydio,

I want to express my gratitude and recognition for your solution to my personal problem. I write this letter remembering and reporting on the entire experience I had until finding peace and tranquility due to my decision to look you up. I hope the information reported herein can be read by other people who have the same problem (PEYRONIE DISEASE) and help them make their personal decisions.

Recalling the events, in October 2001, I began to feel pain in my penis (when erect), with a bend at the tip, a thinning, and as time went by, greater difficulty in satisfaction when having sex. This physical problem was compounded by the onset of depression, personal inhibition and initial shame due to the lack of information and the reduction in my self-esteem and security.

After looking for medical help, initially in Brasília, I was emphatically told that “the cause was not well-defined”. There were hypotheses such as genetics, trauma in the pubian region during sex, worries, stress, fatigue, allopathic medication, in other words, a little of everything. The medical indication was to relieve the pain I felt by using Vitamin E – 1000 mg per day, which truly did happen. For a definitive solution, the professional explained ( could it be ? ) that only a prosthesis would solve the problem.

PROSTHESIS? HOW’S THAT? I ASKED. With countless doubts in my mind and after consulting two other urologists in the area, they told me it was truly a case for a prosthesis, but that was most definitely a final resort, since it is a foreign body in our organism, and some of the prostheses have presented problems.

BEWARE all you who opt for prostheses because I have found out there are imported ones and their national equivalents. But, since my health plan denied the imported prosthesis, claiming there was a national equivalent, the doctors who were going to perform the surgery told me I would have to sign a term of responsibility stating I was aware the prosthesis offered in my plan was not as safe as the other.

After that, despite everything being ready at the hospital to perform the prosthesis implant surgery, I decided against it. I would not be a guinea pig for a product of unproven quality. I returned all the paperwork, medical reports and indications to my health plan's administrative area, protesting the fact they only authorized the national product (I ma not the doctor to know if the product is good or not), and I requested a medical manifestation on the case. I have yet to receive an answer. Total silence.

How’s everything? Of course not. I had yet to find an alternative. My problem was getting worse and I did not have the immediate conditions to purchase an imported prosthesis. Life is funny and everything passes. I was hit by a sign when someone in my family was trying to find information about PEYRONIE DISEASE on the Internet and found Dr. Paulo Egydio’s site.

There was a vast amount of information on the disease, with reports, details, questions regarding prostheses and above all else, alternatives. I found out that this specialist (Dr. Paulo Egydio), after years of study and research, had developed a technique to correct the disease, WITHOUT A PROSTHESIS. I also found information in reports in São Paulo newspapers, which included the professional’s resume.

I was surprised the other doctors I had consulted had never mentioned the existence of this alternative, which is a patented and protected procedure in 23 countries. I found that out when I decided to go to São Paulo and have an appointment at Dr. Paulo’s clinic. There, I had the opportunity to see several documents, reports, diplomas, medical congresses in which he had participated and much, much information.

This information made me feel confident, and the confidence led to the courage to undergo micro surgery, held on 3/8/2003 at Hospital 9 de Julho, which lasted more or less 5 hours.

The day after the surgery, I returned to my city for the post-operative period. There was some minor care for a little over 60 days, but this did not disturb my life. Throughout the recovery, I contacted Dr. Paulo several times, and he was always there for me, despite the distance I live from São Paulo. I felt comfortable with Dr. Paulo’s interest in following up on my post surgery. Whenever I had any doubts, I talked to me on the phone, at that moment, or if it was not urgent, he would always return my call that same day.

That is my report, and to you Dr. Paulo, thank you for your competence and perfectionism in your micro surgeries. Congratulations for discovering the problem can indeed be solved without an implant and for your constant search for improvement. To your entire team, thank you for the attention, respect and professionalism. To your secretary and assistant, Marly, a special thanks, for her overall competence, and for her support when transmitting all my observations to you by phone.
